Spring has come. We can finally say goodbye to our winter clothes. Of course, with a new season comes a new batch of English-dubbed anime shows to enjoy. It’s time to see what sub fans have been raving about all spring. Here are the five English-dubbed anime shows you should watch.
The English-dubbed version of Full Metal Panic premieres this spring anime season. The series follows 17-year-old Sousuke Sagara, a sergeant within the anti-terrorist group “Mithril.” His latest assignment tasks him with enrolling in Jindai High School to act as a bodyguard for Kaname Chidori, a student at Jindai.
But playing the role of a student is tricky for Sousuke. Due to his military upbringing, Sousuke lacks social skills and sees every situation in a military light, which makes for some weird and funny moments. Even so, his primary goal is to protect Chidori and find out why she’s a target in the first place.
Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory picks up after The Second Raid. In the latest adaptation, Sousuke and his colleagues at Mithril are under fierce attack from a rival organization known as “Amalgam.” Not to mention that Merida Island and Mithril’s flagship submarine, the Tuatha de Danaan, have also come under fierce attack. How will the members of Mithril defeat these powerful enemies? English-dubbed fans will find out on May 6th.
Based on the manga of the same name, Hinamatsuri follows Nitta, a member of the infamous Yakuza gang. While admiring his precious porcelain collection, a strange metal pod falls on his head, shocking him. When he finally calms down enough to investigate, he opens it and finds a naked young girl calling herself Hina. As if that wasn’t weird enough, she also has psychic abilities.
Nitta ends up taking her in (to keep her from breaking all of his stuff). Although he was initially reluctant, he quickly warms up to the idea of fostering a father-daughter relationship with Hina. It also doesn’t hurt that her powers come in handy for helping Nitta rise through the ranks of the gang. But, where did Hina come from, and where did she get her psychic powers?
University student Aoi Tsubaki can see ayakashi, strange spirits that roam the human world. Aoi’s grandfather, who raised her, taught her to be wary around these spirits. But, after her grandfather dies, she finds out that he has amassed an enormous debt with a demon innkeeper. Unfortunately, for Aoi, she also discovers that her grandfather offered her hand in marriage as collateral.
Now, dragged to the spirit realm’s Tenjin-ya inn, Aoi must either work or marry a terrifying creature to pay off her grandfather’s debt. No matter her decision, Aoi’s will find it impossible to avoid the ayakashi, the same creatures she was taught to avoid.
A major release for Funimation this spring anime season is the action-packed anime, My Hero Academia. The new season adapts the School Trip arc, which follows the Class 1-A students as they venture into the forest to take their Quirks to the next level. But it wouldn’t be a superhero anime without some villains. So, expect the League of Villains to make an appearance.
Besides the School Trip Arc, the trailer revealed that the new season could also include the Hideout Raid and Hero License Exam arcs. Unfortunately for English-dubbed fans, Funimation didn’t air the first episode due to productions delays. But luckily, they are still on schedule for dubbing episode 2 and beyond.
The anime adaptation of Shinichi Okada (story) and Hiroto Ooishi’s (art) Slave District: 23 Slaves and Me manga premieres this spring on HIDIVE.
